What a busy time of year...so many things going on at church, tackling a remodeling project at home and a trip to Indiana for Thanksgiving make up the last few weeks. I am in a play at church which will be presented on December 12. We are in full rehearsal mode. We celebrated our 30th anniversary at Spring Valley Baptist Church. We had 162 choir members sing that Sunday. It was so much fun to sing in such a huge choir. Afterwards, we ate under a huge tent as a church body. Garry and I spent a long time helping to put up that tent! We decorated the church for Christmas Monday night and left Tuesday morning to pick up Paige, Trevor and Piper in Athens before moving on to Indiana. About 13 hours in the car made for some tired folks when we got into Columbia around 2:30 a.m. As usual, we had a great time with cousins and other relatives. Now that we're home, it's time to finish the floor and begin the backsplash in the kitchen.
FIRST: NEW KITCHEN FLOORING
Taking up the old flooring was backbreaking...whew....and it had to be done in such a way as to save tiles whole to replace ones that were cracked and not in the new pattern. Garry has placed the new tiles in as you can see in the pictures. The blue dots indicate the most recently placed tiles so we wouldn't walk on them before they were set. Now, more backbreaking work as we "ungrout" the entire floor and add new grouting. We are in the ungrouting process now....messy!
SECOND: CHURCH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION: After weeks of rehearsal, we met at 9:00 before the 9:45 service for a run-through. This is the tent we fellowshiped under after singing in both services.
THIRD: THANKSGIVING IN INDIANA: These pictures were taken at Zaharakos, a traditional meeting spot in Columbus, Indiana. When our children were growing up, it was a tradition to meet with all the cousins on Thanksgiving Eve for desserts at this great diner. Back then, it wasn't as beautiful as it is today, but it was great...very old-fashioned. The organ in the pictures was highly sought after by Walt Disney and others who would have paid a fortune for it, but the family would not part with it. Thank goodness! The fountains are beautiful marble and you gotta have a 'green river' and a 'cheesburger' if you eat there...a cheesburger is really like a burger melt on toast. The diner has now doubled in size and has been beautifully remodeled. The baby in the first picture is Stephanie and Jeremy's daughter, Sophia. You can see how much Piper, Mary Elizabeth, Ben and McLean have grown! We were missing Terry, Patti, Carla, Kerry, Thomas, David, Carmen, Grace, Ben, Esther, Mary, Adrian and Jeff.
